PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for eliciting an immune response in mammals against Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), which is also called enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli and verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli, such as O157 and O103, in particular, for treating and preventing STEC disease and STEC colonization of mammals.SOLUTION: There is provided a multiple-epitope fusion protein comprising more than one epitope of an immunogenic STEC protein derived from more than one STEC serotype, utilized for treating and preventing STEC disease and for reducing STEC colonization of ruminants and other mammals in order to reduce the incidence of health problems associated with STEC-contaminated meat and water.SELECTED DRAWING: None
