The present invention concerns a method of improving or enhancing growth at an adult age of an offspring from a female animal, or for improving or enhancing at an adult age muscle mass or muscle/fat ratio of an offspring from a female animal by administrating to said female animal during suckling of said offspring and/or to said offspring an effective amount of fructooligosaccharides.
