869,781. Centrifugal pumps. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., JOSEPH. March 1, 1960 [March 13, 1959], No. 8744/59. Class 110 (1). In the submersible fuel pump shown, air or vapour in the fuel can escape upwardly through passages 14, 15, the gap between the motor rotor 11 and a stainless steel tubular shield 10 and thence through a vent 16. To remove the pump from the fuel tank 2, screws 7 are first turned to lower an annular valve 6 into a position in which it closes the annular inlet 3 of the pump. A drain plug 19 is then removed to empty the pump casing and at the same time allow a valve 17 to close the vent 16. The inner body 8 of the pump can then be unbolted from the tank 2 and removed, the outer casing 1 remaining in place.
