A ballast water treatment device equipped with a filtration device and an irradiation device for irradiating filtrated water that has been filtrated with ultraviolet ray, wherein the filtration device is a device which can remove 99.999% or more of L-size organisms each having a minimum part size of 50 μm or more and can also remove 90% or more of S-size organisms each having a minimum part size of 10 μm or more and less than 50 μm, and the irradiation device can sterilize 90% of the S-size organisms with power consumption of 13 kW per 250 m3/h of the filtrated water immediately after the treatment with the irradiation device.
