Pixels, arranged in a matrix form on a substrate, which comprise: photoelectric conversion units that convert incident light into signal charges; read-out electrodes that read out the signal charges from the photoelectric conversion units; and vertical transfer electrodes which constitute vertical transfer units. A plurality of first pixels and a plurality of second pixels, which are adjacent to the first pixels, are arranged in a chequered pattern by being arranged alternately in columns and alternately in rows. The read-out electrodes are arranged such that a plurality of the signal charges read out from the same photoelectric conversion unit include dark current generated under a common read-out electrode. |
