PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor element including a porous protection layer exhibiting excellent water repellency.SOLUTION: A gas sensor element 100 is configured so that a solid electrolyte 3 including a pair of electrodes 4 on both sides, respectively and a heating element including a heating source 6 are stacked to constitute a detection unit 10 and a porous protection layer 20 is formed around the detection unit 10, and so that the porous protection layer 20 has a coefficient of thermal conductivity λ in a range from 0.2 to 5 W/mK and λCp&rgr; that is a product of the coefficient of thermal conductivity λ (W/mK), a density &rgr; (g/m), and a specific heat Cp (J/gK) is in a range from 5.3×10to 2.1×10WJ/mK.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
