PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of α-alumina fine particles having an average particle diameter of 10 to 100 μm, and α-alumina obtained by the production method.SOLUTION: A production method of α-alumina fine particles having an average particle diameter of 10 to 100 μm and containing molybdenum is provided, which includes a step of firing an alumina hydrate or transition alumina in the presence of a molybdenum compound. The alumina hydrate shows a dehydration temperature of 300°C or higher measured by TGA thermal analysis; and the transition alumina is obtained by thermally treating the alumina hydrate.
