An operation device (3) is provided with: a movable part capable of moving in the directions of X and Y axes which are orthogonal to each other; a magnet (51) capable of moving integrally with the movable part; and a magnetism sensor (53) for detecting the magnetism of the magnet. The magnet is provided with a magnetism detection surface (70) provided with X-axis-direction sides (61, 62), Y-axis-direction sides (63, 64), and linking sides (65, 66, 67, 68). The X-axis-direction sides are disposed so as to be parallel to each other along the X-axis direction. The Y-axis-direction sides are disposed so as to be parallel to each other along the Y-axis direction. The linking sides use arcs or straight lines to link ends of the X-axis-direction sides and ends of the Y-axis-direction sides. The magnetism detection surface is formed so as to have line symmetry with respect to lines parallel to the directions of the X and Y axes. The magnetism sensor is disposed so as to face the magnetism detection surface, and detects components of the magnetic flux density of the magnet in the directions of the X and Y axes. As a result, a simple calculation can be used to detect the position on the basis of the detection result from the magnetism sensor. |
