An electric steering control device which controls steering characteristics by outputting, using a motor, assist torque in accordance with a detected value of steering torque applied to a steering wheel shaft. The electric steering control device comprises: a steering target value generation unit (22, 22a) which generates a target value for the steering torque on the basis of a state quantity estimated from the assist torque and the target value of the steering torque; command value generation units (21, 23) which generate command values for controlling the motor in a manner such that the deviation between the target value for the steering torque and the detected value of the steering torque becomes less than a prescribed threshold value; and a motor drive unit (42) which drives the motor on the basis of the command values.
