PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve device for an internal combustion engine capable of improving controllability in changing a maximum lift amount.SOLUTION: A variable valve device 100 includes a control shaft 65 for determining a maximum lift amount of an intake valve 31 on the basis of an axial position, a cam 135 for displacing the control shaft 65 along the axial direction, and a motor control portion 110C for controlling drive of a motor 110 for rotating the cam 135. A cam surface of the cam 135 is provided with a change section where a cam diameter is gradually increased toward one direction and the maximum lift amount is changed, and a holding section where the maximum lift amount is held at a fixed value. The motor control portion 110C stops the drive of the cam 135 after driving the cam 135 to the change section having the cam diameter larger than that in the holding section corresponding to the target maximum lift amount, when the actual maximum lift amount is increased toward the target maximum lift amount. |
