In an " espresso " type of coffee machine which comprises a cylinder-and-piston arrangement, the machine is adapted by suitable construction of the filter, in which the depth of coffee is constant, for the simultaneous preparation of a given number of cups of coffee in excess of two. In the apparatus for the simultaneous preparation of eight cups of coffee, the cylinder 1 contains a piston 2 having a stroke eight times that of known arrangements. Piston 2 is attached coaxially to a slidably mounted piston 14 in an auxiliary hydraulic cylinder, about twice the diameter of the first, and situated vertically above it. The coffee filter arrangement 7, and the filter carrier 6 have a diameter which allows the filter to hold coffee sufficient for eight cups, the depth of the coffee being ¢-inch. A perforate disc 10 is situated in the filter and lies in abutment with a peripheral rim on the underside of the distributer 4. Coffee is produced by infusion with water from the boiler 3.</p> |
