A secondary cell consists of positive and negative zig-zag grids 7, 9 forming spaces 6, 8 for holding the active materials, the grids being insulated from one another by separators 11, 12. The grids are soldered to metal plates 1, 10 which are bent at their ends over an insulating frame 2 and held in position by a clamping strip 5 which is separated from the ends of the plates by an insulating strip 4. The electrolyte 14 occupies the spaces between the grids. The cells may be stacked (see Fig. 4) to form a battery having a casing 22 and intermediate walls 1a separating cells which are connected in series relationship by rivets 26. Alternative ways of securing the intermediate walls are shown in the two partial sections. |
