The present invention relates to a face recognizing apparatus using modified census transform (MCT) and a method thereof. The face recognizing apparatus according to the present invention comprises: an image receiving unit for receiving images photographed by a camera; an MCT converting unit for converting the received image by using an MCT method while the size of the received image is maintained; a look-up table storing probability values, as a look-up table format, of multiple windows of which the sizes are different from each other based on the MCT value; a data processing unit for scanning the MCT converted images by using the multiple windows respectively and for extracting multiple candidate areas by using the probability values extracted by the look-up table; and a face extracting unit for computing the locations of the multiple candidate areas and for extracting a facial area by using the sizes and locations of the computed candidates areas. Accordingly, by using the present invention, a face recognition can be performed quickly compared to the existing technology since the present invention does not require a process of reducing the size of an inputted image, and stores a look-up table for varied sizes of windows after producing the same beforehand. In addition, damage to the inputted image does not occur, thereby more accurately recognizing a face. |
