873,668. Change-speed control. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. Nov. 2, 1959 [Nov. 26, 1958], No. 37119/59. Class 80 (2). In a vehicle change-speed gear a slide member 35 is mounted in a guide channel 31 in a carriage 17 and is slidable transversely of shift rails 14, 15, 16 to select a rail, and the carriage is slidable longitudinally of the rails to actuate the selected rail. Transverse movement of the slide 35 is obtained by manual operation of a Bowden wire (not shown) or a linkage which rotates a crank arm 43 on a shaft 42 having a crank arm 44 carrying a pin 46 riding in a groove 47 in the undersurface of the slide 35. A second Bowden wire controls longitudinal movement of the carriage which is fast on a hollow piston-rod 23 of a piston 60.of an air or other fluid-pressure or vacuum-operated motor 7 controlled by a valverod 24 which is mounted within the piston-rod and is actuated by the second Bowden wire which is secured to a clamp 68 on the valve rod. The slide 35 is spring-biased upwardly against a cover 10 of the transmission housing and is thereby frictionally retained against unintentional movement. The motor 7 is mounted at the side of the transmission housing below the level of the cover 10 and provides a compact assembly useful, for example, in a tractor and semi-trailer combination in which the tractor has a cab-over-engine arrangement so that vertical space is limited. Specification 854,079 and U.S.A. Specifications 1, 993, 015 and 2,152,914 are referred to. |
