[Also in Group XXIV] In a road roller having a driving and vibrating cylinder 18, the journal ball bearings 26 of the cylinder and the ball bearing of the driving pinion 28 are both rigidly mounted in a frame 25 of substantially rectangular configuration which is mounted in a substantially horizontal position in the main frame 32 of the vehicle by means of resilient pads 31 on its front and rear members. The pinion 28 engages a toothed annulus mounted on the cylinder 18, and the gears are sealed by a case 30. A shaft, carrying an eccentric mass 24 and driving pulley 27, is rotatably mounted in journal members 23 of the cylinder 18.
