A hollow aerofoil (30, fig. 5b) for a turbomachine with a chamber (50, fig. 5b) containing two different vibration damping media 52, 54, wherein a first medium 52 envelopes at least a portion of a second medium 54. The aerofoil may be used as a blade in a fan or a blisk of a gas turbine engine. There may further be a support body 56, stiffer than the two media or elements, at least partly enveloped by one or both of them. Preferably the support body is enveloped by one damping element and encompasses the other. The two damping elements may be viscoelastic and concentric. Furthermore, the chamber and the support body may be elongate. There may be plural chambers, preferably elongate and arranged in parallel. Adjacent chambers may fluidly communicate through pathways. The damping media or the support body may extend between chambers via the pathways. Alternatively, the pathways may be blocked. A method of manufacturing the aerofoil is also claimed. |
