An apparatus for monitoring the structural health of a number columns such as lighting columns, each of which can receive power form an external source or otherwise. The apparatus is located on an upper surface of the columns and features a micro controller with electronic chip or board, including in circuit, an accelerometer, wireless transmitter which can optionally use Wi-Fi/RF or 3G/4G signals, global positioning component which is optionally a global positioning system (GPS) and/or realtime clock component. The micro controller is powered by the columns power source or otherwise, monitors the magnitude and direction of forces imposed on the column and transmits the received data to a remote server for analysis. Optionally, the apparatus can feature an anemometer or gyroscope and a power surge protector included in circuit for the microcontroller. The lighting column could also be a street light or lamp post. |
