<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an occupant who looks at light flowing in a direction opposite the moving direction of an elevator car from directly feeling a moving speed or an altitude when the elevator car moves, even when the occupant does not see the view in a closed elevator. <P>SOLUTION: A light emitting device 3 which is positioned along a hoist way of an elevator car 2 is disposed in an elevator shaft 1 surrounded by a nontransparent wall surface. The entire or substantially entire surface of the side wall 4 of the elevator car facing the light emitting device is constituted of a transparent material.
