A stabilizer system for vinyl chloride polymers is a combination of both calcium and zinc salts and comprises, by weight, 1 part of calcium and/or zinc benzoate, between 3/8 and 3 1/3 parts of zinc and/or calcium salts of mixed fatty acids derived from edible fats and oils and between 1/2 and 4 parts by weight of sorbitol or pentaerythritol. Fats and oils specified are tallow and coconut, cottonseed, soyabean, corn and peanut oils; they may be hydrogenated. Vinyl chloride polymers specified are polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, vinylidene chloride, maleic or fumaric acid, or styrene. Optional ingredients which may be included in the stabilized vinyl chloride polymer composition are other resins, e.g. chlorinated polyethylene or a copolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, and plasticizers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate or octyl diphenyl phosphate. |
