<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately control slack quantity of a medium. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an image forming section, a first drive section for conveying a medium in the image forming section, a fixing device 28, a second drive section for conveying the medium in the fixing device 28, a slack detection device including a slack detection element for detecting slack of the medium, an adjusting section for adjusting a detection position of the slack detection element, and a slack quantity control section for changing rotational speed of one of the first and second drive sections on the basis of the slack of the medium detected by the slack detection element. The detection position of the slack detection element for detecting slack of the medium formed between the image forming section and the fixing device 28 is adjusted, thereby enabling placing of the slack detection element at a proper position according to thickness of the medium.
