摘要 <p><FORM:0954844/C3/1> A catalytic conversion plant for the continuous generation of gases from hydrocarbons comprises a conversion element 1, a heat exchanger 2, an air preheater 3, and a burner 4, formed as a unit which is detachably connected with a steam generator 5 by means of a flange connection 6. Heated air leaving the preheater 3 by outlet 24 is mixed with steam discharged at 33 from steam generator 5 and the hydrocarbon is fed into the mixture. The resultant mixture enters the apparatus by inlet 15 through the annulus of the heat exchanger 2 and is preheated to 450 DEG to 500 DEG C. by the outflowing conversion gases in pipes 16; the preheated mixture then enters the concentric annular spaces 10 and 11, formed by the concentric pipes 7, 8, and 9 which contain the conversion catalyst, and the converted gases leave through pipes 16. The heating is effected by burning a suitable fuel with air in the burner 4; the hot flue gases formed circulate through the apparatus and are used to heat the catalyst in the conversion element 1, to preheat the air which circulates through the annulus 3, and to vaporize the water in steam generator 5. The catalyst temperatures are from 750 DEG to 900 DEG C. The pipes constituting the conversion element may be ribbed or corrugated in order to increase the heating surface.</p>
