<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for refining a carbon nanofiber produced using a catalyst, whereby a residual catalyst can be sufficiently removed to obtain a highly pure carbon nanofiber, and applications thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The method for refining a carbon nanofiber produced using a catalyst comprises a step of removing the residual catalyst using a solution containing an inorganic acid and a chelating agent. Preferably, the inorganic acid is at least one selected from the group consisting of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, the chelating agent is at least one selected from the group consisting of aminocarboxylic acid chelates, phosphonic acid chelates, gluconic acid chelates and organic acids, and the carbon nanofiber is refined using an aqueous solution having inorganic acid concentration of 0.1-10 wt.% and chelating agent concentration of 0.01-5 wt.%.
