513,516. Motor-vehicle driving-gear. SVENSKA ACCUMULATOR AKTIEBOLAGET JUNGNER. Jan. 11, 1938, No. 864. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1937. [Class 79 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Step-by-step transmission gear for a motor vehicle is characterised by the provision of three gear ratios, (1) a ratio which gives the maximum vehicle speed, and is such that the load or resistance curve A intersects the peak of the engine power curve B on this ratio, (2) a higher ratio or fuel economy speed such that the maximum vehicle speed is less than on the top gear ratio, and (3) a low ratio for acceleration purposes. At least the acceleration gear ratio may be hydraulic and the remainder toothed gearing. The gears may be changed manually or automatically or by a combination of both means, the automatic control depending on engine or vehicle speed or the engine induction pipe pressure. The desired transmission gear ratios may be obtained by lowering the ratios of an ordinary gear box, or by using an ordinary gear box and lowering the axle gear ratio or inserting an additional gear between the drive shaft and the axle gear.
|
