A folding roof has a tension cable 24 to hold the lower edge 25 of the hood fabric 26 into engagement with the body 11. At its forward end the cable 24 is secured to an arm 22 reciprocable in the member 18 and secured to a plunger 19 which is under the action of a spring which tends to force the arm 22 downwardly. When the hood is erected the tension on the cable 29 decreases and allows the arm 22 to move downwardly and the camming action of the slot 23 rotates the member 19 and arm 22 to exert an axial force on the cable 24.
