An apparatus for separating solid particles from a hydrocarbon-containing fluid produced from an oil and/or gas production facility comprises an upstream particle separation unit 100 for separating solid particles and fluid in a vortex chamber and a downstream particle separation unit 200. The upstream particle separation unit 100 including an input conduit (1, fig 1) for a fluid and particle mixture, a first collector (418, fig 1) for solid particles beneath the vortex chamber and a fluid conduit (5, fig 1) for conveying fluid away from the vortex chamber. The downstream particle separation unit 200 includes a first conduit 414 for conveying a fluidising fluid into a lower portion of the first collector, a second conduit 413 for receiving a fluidised flow of solid particles from a lower portion of the first collector, a particle separator for receiving the fluidised flow and a second collector for receiving solid particles separated by the particle separator. The upstream particle separation unit 100 is adapted to separate a fluid and particle mixture at a higher pressure than a pressure of the fluidised flow separated by the downstream particle separation unit 200. |
