The present invention discloses an optical integrated microfibre device for refractive index and temperature sensing consists of a 3-port circulator (21); an optical microfibre having a microfibre knot resonator, MKR (11), a Sagnac loop reflector (12), a microfibre coupler (16); two untapered fibre end (13) and (14); and a thin layer of low-refractive-index resin coated on the 3-port circulator (21) and the optical microfibre (22) except the MKR (11) sensing region. This optical integrated microfibre device with an MKR integrated in a Sagnac loop reflector (12) exhibits a linear response to both temperature and refractive index variation. A small change in free spectral range is observed when the microfibre device experiences a large refractive index change in the surrounding medium. The change is found to be in agreement with calculated results based on dispersion relationships. Figure 1 |
