<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation detection mechanism of a switch device which can reliably detect rotation of an operation knob and allows size reduction of the switch device. <P>SOLUTION: A rotation detection mechanism of a switch device 1 comprises: an operation knob 3; a rotor 8 which has a plurality of drive pieces 8a and rotates in conjunction with the rotational operation of the operation knob 3; a rotation detection switch 14 which detects the rotation amount and rotation direction of the operation knob 3 when a moving piece 14a is operated by making contact with the drive pieces 8a of the rotor 8; a substrate 13; a terminal base 12 attached to a case 2 in a state making contact with the rotor 8; and a spring (biasing means) 9 which biases the rotor 8 in a direction to make contact with the terminal base 12. The rotor 8 is held to the case 2 in a manner slidable in a rotational axis direction of the operation knob 3.
