The present invention relates to the high pressure polymerization of ethylene and optionally comonomers using organic peroxides as polymerization initiators. The peroxide initiators are dissolved in a C3 to C6 hydrocarbon solvent. In one embodiment, the organic solvent at the same time acts as a chain transfer agent.
