A method and apparatus are disclosed for determining elastic modulus for a continuous material web, in which method a continuous material web runs on a roll driven by an electric motor drive. The method includes determining material web speed v2, providing a change in an adjustable characteristic of the continuous material web by the electric motor drive, the characteristic being material web tension T, torque M acting on the material web or material web speed v2, calculating elastic modulus E on the basis of the determined material web speed v2 and speed change &Dgr;v2 and torque change &Dgr;M or material web tension change &Dgr;T. |
