A method for installing an application in a portable terminal includes acquiring a screen image of another portable terminal and acquiring information about at least one applications from the acquired screen image, displaying a list of the at least one applications whose information is acquired, and requesting and receiving an installation file of an application selected by a user from the displayed list, and installing the selected application by using the received installation file.

obtaining, at an electronic device, an image representing a screen of another electronic device including one or more icons; identifying one or more applications corresponding to the one or more icons; and retrieving installation information for the identified one or more applications and installing, at the electronic device, at least one application of the one or more applications with the installation information, wherein the installing comprises receiving the installation information associated with installation of the at least one application from an application server.
