A beverage dispensing system comprises a container, an attachment mechanism, and a cartridge. The container may hold a mixing solution or liquid, such as water, to be mixed with the contents of the cartridge. The attachment mechanism is generally located within the container. The cartridge generally engages with the attachment mechanism to open the cartridge to be dispensed into the container, thereby combining the contents of the cartridge with the liquid within the container to create a drinkable beverage. The cartridge may include a unique identifier to track a set of beverage characteristics associated with the contents of the cartridge and the beverage. The container may capture the unique identifier of the cartridge associated with the set of beverage characteristics and transfer the set of beverage characteristics over a wireless network to a computing device or network. |

1. A beverage dispensing system comprising:
a container; an attachment mechanism coupled to the container, the attachment mechanism including a piercing portion; and a cartridge adapted to engage the attachment mechanism, the cartridge comprising a chamber, an opening, and a cover located over the opening, the cover being cuttable and foldable during engagement of the cartridge and the attachment mechanism, the cartridge further including a cap attached to the top of the chamber, wherein the cap includes a foil retainer wherein when the cartridge is engaged with the attachment mechanism, the piercing portion pushes against the foil retainer, thereby piercing the cover with the foil retainer, wherein the cartridge holds one or more beverage ingredients, the cartridge including a unique identifier to track a set of beverage characteristics associated with the one or more beverage ingredients of the cartridge, and further wherein the unique identifier is associated with the cartridge, the set of beverage characteristics, and the one or more beverage ingredients of the cartridge, wherein the set of beverage characteristics includes one or more of the following: flavor of the beverage ingredients, nutritional content of the beverage ingredients, functional ingredients of the beverage ingredients and location or time of day consumed, wherein when the cartridge is engaged with the attachment mechanism, the piercing portion pierces through the cover, the attachment mechanism opens the cartridge to the container leaving the cover cut and folded open, wherein the set of beverage characteristics associated with the unique identifier is used with a software application on a computing device or a network, wherein the software application performs at least one of the following functions: tracking liquid consumed over a period of time or tracking nutrients consumed over a period of time. |
