The device (1) has impact sound identification unit (20) and control element (30) for identifying an impact sound (TS), which is formed at an auditory canal of a wearer, based on an impact sound level and/or impact sound frequency pattern. The identification unit and the control element reduce amplification of an active occlusion reduction unit (10) when the impact sound is present. The identification unit and the control element switches-off the active occlusion reduction unit when the impact sound is present. The identifying units comprise an acceleration sensor and a vibration sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a hearing device with active occlusion reduction.
