A memory system of the present invention comprises: a nonvolatile memory device, and a memory controller. The memory controller performs the following operations of: obtaining first and second data units; determining a first plurality of values associated with a first plurality of chunks, and a second plurality of values associated with a second plurality of chunks; determining a similarity between the first and second data units based on whether the number of the first values equals to that of the second values; dividing the first data unit into a first plurality of non-overlapping chunks of data; and dividing the second data unit into a second plurality of non-overlapping chunks of data.
