A trellis post for use as part of a vine trellis system. The post includes an open ended elongate tubular hollow member having an above ground portion 2 and below ground portion 1. The above ground portion 2 acts as the trellis support and the below ground portion acts to retain the trellis post securely in the ground. The below ground portion 2 has a plurality of evenly spaced ground engaging dimples 5 on its outer surface in order to assist the holding and retention of the trellis post within the ground upon and after insertion of the trellis post into the ground. Having the evenly spaced circular convex dimples on the outer surface of the below ground engaging portion serves to lessen the ground disturbance as the post is inserted into the ground and to enhance retention of the post in the ground. In use the evenly spaced circular convex dimples on the outer surface of the below ground engaging portion of the trellis post can allow for up to 50% of the ground around the post remaining undisturbed during installation. The post also has the ability to be rotated to act as a bayonet fitting by positioning the dimples underneath the undisturbed ground adjacent to the dimples original path of entry in order to further enhance the posts retention in the ground. |
