PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyarylate resin which has sufficient ultraviolet light absorbing properties and solubility in organic solvents, excellent solution stability even when dissolved in a polar organic solvent with high hygroscopicity, and further excellent reactivity with other materials and adhesion to various materials.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a polyarylate resin which comprises a bisphenol of formula (1) and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid component, and satisfies the formula: &eegr;/&eegr;≤0.95 (&eegr;represents an inherent viscosity of a tetrachloroethane solvent, and &eegr;represents an inherent viscosity in a solvent of phenol/tetrachloroethane/sodium acetate mixed at the ratio of 6/4/0.006.
