[Problem] To provide a side airbag device in which the behavior of the side airbag during the inflation and expansion thereof can be easily controlled. [Solution] A side airbag device (100) has: a side airbag (108) which, when supplied with gas, inflates and expands from a side part of a vehicle seat (102) within the vehicle; and an inflator (112) which supplies the gas to the side airbag. The side airbag device (100) is characterized in that: before being inflated and expanded, the side airbag is received within the seat such that the side airbag is wound in an elongated shape; and the side airbag includes a first region (128) wound in a first direction and also includes a second region (130) wound in a second direction opposite the first direction.
