The invention is to a process to use hydrogen produced by electrolytic processes to either heat pulverised coal to an elevated temperature and pressure to achieve higher efficiencies in conventional power generation units or use the hydrogen to convert coal into syngas which is then used in a combined cycle power generation system ie one using a gas turbine to drive a generator in conjunction with a steam generator using heat from the gas turbine to generate steam which then powers a steam turbine to generate additional electricity.
