A washing machine and a washing method. The washing machine comprises a wash tub and an impeller (1) at the bottom of the wash tub. The impeller (1) comprises an impeller plate (2) and multiple water-stirring blades (3) arranged on the surface of the impeller plate (2). The impeller (2) is a disk-shaped structure having a bulged center. The water-stirring blades (3) extend from the bulged center of the impeller plate (2) toward the edge. Multiple strip-shaped ribs (9) in a vertical arrangement are provided on the inner wall (10) of the wash tub. The outer edge of the impeller (1) is a certain distance away from the bottom edge of the inner wall (10) of the wash tub. A tub-bottom outer ring (4) is arranged between the outer edge of the impeller (1) and the bottom edge of the inner wall (10) of the wash tub. Multiple protruding blocks (8) protruding the tub-bottom outer ring (4) and the inner wall (10) of the wash tub are arranged in the circumferential direction at the intersection of the tub-bottom outer ring (4) and the inner wall (10) of the wash tub. The washing machine is capable of saving wash water, increases detergent concentration, increase the frequency of up-and-down flipping, increases the ratio of cleaned laundry and the uniformity of laundry cleanness, reduces wash time, reduces tangling among the laundry, and, with evenly distributed laundry in the tub when washed, facilitates the stability of subsequent spin-drying.
