This control system (100) comprises a first human detection unit (1) for detecting whether or not there is human presence within a first detection range, a second human detection unit (2), having second detection range overlapping with the first detection range, for detecting whether or not there is human presence within the second detection range, a determination unit (32) having a plurality of determination modes for determining whether or not there is human presence, a sending unit (31) for sending a control signal to a device to be controlled on the basis of the determination result from the determination unit (32), and a load (5) which is the device to be controlled and which receives the control signal and switches the operation mode thereof in response to the control signal. When the load (5) is in a first operation mode, the determination unit (32) operates in a first determination mode in which human presence is determined on the basis of at least the detection result from the first human detection unit (1). When the load (5) is in a second operation mode that is different from the first operation mode, the determination unit (32) operates in a second determination mode in which human presence is determined on the basis of the detection result from the second human detection unit (2).
