The purpose of the present invention is to provide a configuration in which an image to be observed is less susceptible to distortion when the position of an image display device in the eye ball direction of an observer is adjusted. This image display device is provided with an image forming unit (40), and an optical system (52) for guiding an image from the image forming unit (40) to an eye ball (11) of an observer, and satisfies 0 (degrees) ≤ ω2 < ω1 when a point at which an extension line of the optical axis of the optical system (52) intersects an image output surface of the image forming unit (40) is defined as an image forming unit first collision point (CP1), a normal line passing the first collision point (CP1) in the image output surface of the image forming unit (40) is defined as a first normal line (NL1), a point at which an extension line of a pupillary center line of the eye ball (11) of the observer intersects the image output surface of the image forming unit (40) is defined as an image forming unit second collision point (CP2), a normal line passing the second collision point (CP2) in the image output surface of the image forming unit (40) is defined as a second normal line (NL2), an angle which the extension line of the optical axis of the optical system (52) forms with the first normal line (NL1) is defined as ω1, and an angle which the extension line of the pupillary center line forms with the second normal line (NL2) is defined as ω2. |
