PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide porous carbon having an extremely-high specific surface area even in the case of crystalline carbon, and to provide a production method thereof.SOLUTION: Porous carbon including a mesopore, a micropore and a carbonaceous wall constituting an outline of the mesopore has a peak at 26.45° in a Bragg angle 2&thetas; in an X-ray diffraction spectrum to CuKα-ray (wavelength 1.541Å). Further, the resistivity is 1.0×10&OHgr;-cm or less. Further, the carbonaceous wall 3 forms a three-dimensional network structure.
