PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint assembly evaluating apparatus and a joint assembly evaluating method.SOLUTION: The present application discloses methods and apparatus (510) for evaluating characteristics of components of a mechanically attached connection. Characteristics that may be evaluated include, but are not limited to, the position of a conduit gripping device (520, 518) on a conduit, an amount of axial compression or stroke of the conduit gripping device, and an amount of clamping force applied to the conduit gripping device as the conduit gripping device is axially compressed or stroked. In one exemplary embodiment, installation of the conduit gripping device on the conduit is evaluated by sensing the position of a conduit end position relative to the conduit gripping device. The sensed position enables determination as to whether the conduit end portion reaches a predetermined position relative to the conduit gripping device. The conduit gripping device is compressed in order to attach the conduit gripping device to the conduit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A |
