A ranging method uses a light source LS and a distance sensor P(m, n) having a charge generation region and first and second charge storage regions FD1 and FD2. Charges generated in the charge generation region are stored in the first charge storage region FD1 by transferring the charges to the first charge storage region FD1 for a first period T1, and are stored in the second charge storage region FD2 by transferring the charges to the second charge storage region FD2 for a second period T2. The distance d to an object OJ is calculated on the basis of a charge amount Q1 stored in the first charge storage region FD1 and a charge amount Q2 stored in the second charge storage region FD2. When a pulsed light Lp is emitted from the light source LS, a preset pulsed light Lp is emitted, of which a light intensity stabilization period TS is longer than each of the first and second periods T1 and T2 in a period TT in which the pulsed light Lp is emitted from the light source LS. |
