A touch panel device (100) is provided with a casing (B1), a touch panel (TP), a switch (SW), and a control unit. The switch (SW) provided on the side surface of the casing (B1) is used to activate the touch panel (TP), which is provided in an area less than or equal to the distance in which capacitive coupling with the touch panel (TP) is possible.
