<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adapter which can functionalize various types of optical systems appropriately in a lens interchangeable type camera system. <P>SOLUTION: An adapter comprises: a first mount unit to/from which a camera body is attachable/detachable; a second mount unit which is provided independently from the first mount unit, and to/from which an interchangeable lens having a focus lens for performing focusing is attachable/detachable; and an adapter control unit for generating positional information of the focus lens on the basis of a pulse signal output from the interchangeable lens depending on the moving state of the focus lens, and transmitting the positional information to the camera body.
