A torque converter (21, Figure 1) has an external engine facing pocket 28 for engagement by an alignment tool 41 for restraining the torque converter (21) against rotation within a transmission housing so a torque converter plate (25, Figure 4) and studs (26, Figure 4) can be held still while an engine part (15, Figure 3) and corresponding apertures (16, Figure 3) are aligned with the studs (26). The tool is arranged for removal through the usual starter motor aperture (13, Figure 3) so as not to obstruct connection to the transmission of the engine. The tool 41 including a foot (45, Figure 6), which may depend from a leg 44 and is engageable with a pocket 28 upon movement in an engaging direction. Upon engagement the tool 41 is restricted from movement relative to a transmission housing save on an attachment axis (54, Figure 12) which is parallel to an input axis of the torque converter (21). |
