In a pneumatic conveyer for cigarettes a hopper 2, Fig. 1, provided with a rotary pocketted air lock device 4 transfers the cigar. ettes one at a time to a position in line with a conveyer duct 1 from which the cigarettes are removed at the receiving end. The air lock device 4 comprises a pocketted drum 9, Fig. 2, arranged between end plates 7, 8 to which an air supply line 16 and the conveyer duct 1 are respectively connected. A ribbed roller 11 is arranged to ensure that only one cigarette is received in each groove 10. At the receiving end the duet 1 has an open channel 19 to reduce the speed of delivery. The cigarettes slide to a spring buffer 21 above a rotary perforated suction drum 20 which carries them transversely to a take-off roller 32 from which they fall to a conveyer belt (not shown). The drum 20 surrounds a fixed cylinder 23, Fig. 3, connected to a suction line 25 and having a slot 24 in its upper portion arranged so that suction is applied to the perforations 22 to retain the cigarettes on the upper portion only of the drum 20.</p> |
