<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform an optimal exposure control using a defocus amount of a focus detecting area even if a plurality of focus detecting areas correspond to a single photometric area. <P>SOLUTION: The image pickup apparatus, as for the photometric area to which a plurality of focus detecting areas correspond, determines a single defocus amount based on a defocus amount of each of the plurality of focus detecting areas corresponding thereto, determines a weighting coefficient based on the determined defocus amount, and calculates an exposure control value based on a photometric value that is obtained by performing a weighting arithmetic using the determined weighting coefficient of each of the plurality of photometric areas, and a photometric value of each of the plurality of photometric areas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
