The present invention provides a practical, cost-effective and eco-friendly ecopiling process for remediating hydrocarbon and/or heavy metal impacted soils, sediment and/or sludge. It involves the processes of biostimulation, bioaugmentation, rhizoremediation, phytoremediation and a passive biopile. The process comprises steps of a) design a consortium comprising pollutant degrading, plant promoting and/or biosurfactant producing bacteria; b) encapsulating the consortium in immobilizing material; c) applying the consortium to the contaminated soil/sludge/sediment; d) constructing a passive biopile; e) capping the biopile with plants for phytoremediation. <Figure 1> |
