摘要 In the present invention, there is disclosed a method of producing a fluorene derivative, which comprises subjecting fluorenone and a phenolic compound (such as 2-alkylphenol containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety) to a condensation reaction in the presence of mercaptocarboxylic acid and a hydrochloric acid aqueous solution to obtain a fluorene derivative ( such as 9,9-bis(alkylhydroxyphenyl)fluorene containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety), wherein the fluorenone/mercaptocarboxylic acid weight ratio is approximately 1/0.05 to 1/0.3 wherein the ratio of said mercaptocarboxylic acid to hydrogen chloride comprised in said aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid is approximately 1/0.3 to 1/2. Using the preparation method according to the present invention it is possible to obtain an extremely pure fluorine derivative exhibiting excellent transparency without need of use gaseous hydrogen chloride, which is difficult to handle.
